Join Torsten Jacobsen, M.D. for an eye-opening look at the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters—earthquakes, hurricanes, wildfires, and more. Exploring past events like the 1964 earthquake in Anchorage, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, and the 2011 Japan tsunami, Dr. Jacobsen highlights the urgency of preparing for nature’s unpredictable forces. The recent catastrophic flood of the Guadalupe River in Texas–and the devastating wildfires which raged across Los Angeles–underscore how suddenly disaster can strike, bringing this message closer to home than ever. Discover practical steps to ensure you're 100% self-sufficient in the immediate aftermath, covering everything from food and water to medical care and financial preparedness. Don’t miss this essential discussion on how to safeguard yourself and your loved ones when the next “tantrum” strikes.
Dr. Torsten Jacobsen is an orthopedic trauma surgeon with deep firsthand experience in disaster zones worldwide. Born in China and raised in Denmark, he trained first as a veterinarian at UC Davis before completing medical school and an orthopedic residency at UCSF. He served as a trauma surgeon overseas with the rank of major, and later as associate professor of orthopedic surgery in the Netherlands. His work has taken him to crises such as the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the Loma Prieta quake, and California’s Camp and Tubbs wildfires. Through international missions—both as a physician and a Rotarian—he has focused on women’s health and cancer care, and has partnered with organizations like SIGN to improve trauma care in Africa.
